why you.

yesterday, you asked, "why me, sarah?" i just smiled and didn't answer but i already had one even way back in february.

first, let me tell you things that are NOT my reasons.

it's not your Latin honors in Ateneo nor your impressive AIM business degree. it's not you showing me off to your HS, college, post-grad, work barkada and bosses one month into "hanging out". it's not you proudly introducing me to your parents, whole clan, cousins, here and abroad. it's not us having universes too parallel, even far back to our childhood that we could've crossed paths multiple times. it's not our crazy, drunk nights where we would zigzag thoroughfares when the sun rises. it's not our lavish dates, expensive meals, nor your intense chivalry. it's not you correcting all my past traumas. it's not all your successes in life. it's not even having this kid with you.

i remember having a conversation with my plane seatmate in a flight from LA last year. it was about him, his life and his realizations at 50. in the midst of his stories, i shared i felt empty despite believing i already had it all, and he suggested maybe i needed a God. that maybe i needed the values i sacrificed for the wrong reasons. that, to me, was life changing.

those are my reasons. you brought back God and the values i once had.
